Weekly Review and ETF picks for Jan 31 2011 Week.

On Friday, after trapping the bulls with marketing going above 1300, the market reversed with earnings miss from Amazon and weak PC sales from Microsoft and then CNBC and all media blasting out Egypt news and causing unnecessary worries (Suez canal shutdown, inflation caused by QE2, Protest spreading to Saudi Arabia, Iran etc),

As we had pointed out on Jan 26, that market was a bit over extended and going between 1280 and 1300 levels.

Weekly ETF Returns

Due to markets dropping, I got stopped out of FAS and TYH positions and returns for these two days were -4.6%.

Currently only ETF that was positive is ERX / USO / USL.

Markets are in correction and we will have to see whether we enter the Bear territory or this is just a 5% correction that everyone is expecting.

Couple of charts below give you the view on why we call these market in correction

Unless market reverses and closes above 1300, I am not taking any positions. I might take some short positions but I dont suggest my readers to do that as Shorting is much more stressful than buying.

Weekly ETF Review and Picks for Jan 26

Today the market was basking the "Do Nothing" Glow both from President Obama and then later in the afternoon from FEDS.

The high flying DOW touching 12,000 and S&P coming close to 1300.
Tomorrow with NFLX reporting very good quarter, I expect market to open up higher then with bunch of DATA reports..

So depending on that data we might be pushed into the new Highs territory or we might be pushed back into the range between 1275 and 1300 on S&P

TOP ETF for this upcoming week are as follows:

Weekly ETF Picks

I have been on vacation since past couple of days so posting anything was not possible.

I will try to keep up with the posting but as time, internet access permits, I will post my comments. \

Markets have been choppy for past couple of days and swings between new highs and small dips.

The highly volatile names will keep on posting high gains.

This week's picks for the ETFs are as follows:
1. PALL

2. AGQ / SLV

3. ROB

4. XME

5. KRE

I will not track these top ETFs till I return from my vacation.

I am ending the year with on very very solid returns with bulk of the returns coming from the Google options. without these options, my returns would have been half.

Good Luck for the upcoming year.

This year's new goal is to reach 100% without using options and with options goal is to make 200%. Hopefully Godess Laxmi and Greek God PLUTUS have his blessings on all of us.

Weekly ETF Review and New pics for Dec5 Week

In my last post I had mentioned that I am not that bullish as market was was walking on a thin Ice and was weak. I could jump on or it could roll over.

However as we always do, we allow markets to tell us and then we act. During the week on 1st Dec, it showed us that it wants to go higher and gapped up after creating a very bearish sign on November 30. It gapped up 14-15 points (SPX).

With that bullish sign, I got fully invested in the ETFs that we had on our weekly selection list. Also in some of the regular accounts, I got fully invested with stocks. The name of the game was to get fully invested in all accounts.

Weekly Performance Review:

There is no change in this week's Top Picks Weekly ETF

TOP ETF for this upcoming week are as follows:

I continue to hold these names as we go ahead.

1. AGQ

2. SOXL

3. ERX

4. TNA

5. PALL

We will track these top ETF again next week.

Some points to consider... On SPX, the overhead resistance is at 1125 that we highs that we created on Nov 5. So markets might hang around that or try to shake out.. but as long as we are above the 20 day MA which is now at 1200 (the previous resistance that turned support) we are fine.

I am going on vacation this Tuesday and will not be able able to track markets till next Saturday. But with all stops in place and markets in the bullish mode.. I am not that much worried.. Usually I sell all the positions when I am taking a break but this time I will let the positions ride, since all of them are in green.

Good Luck and hopefully Holidays Spirits enlighten your portfolio and trading accounts.

Weekly Review of ETF and New ETF for week of Nov 22

Again as I pointed out there is historical bias to being positive for the week before Thanksgiving.

Our top ETF picks last week and their weekly returns are as follows:
Top 5 ETF last week were
***********************************
ETF Weekly gain
***********************************
1. AGQ - 14.39%
2. SOXL - 5.71%
3. ERX - 3.26%
4. PALL - 5.02%
5. TNA - 1.40%
--------------------------------------------
Cumulative return of 5.96%.
Ann % return of 374%.

However I due to weakness on Monday and Tuesday, I did not get into any of these except for PALL So my return is like 1.05% due only 1/5 principal being deployed.

SPY's return for the same period were 0.22% and another GTAA (so called choosing the leader Tactical ETF) was -0.44% .

This tells us that picking up Porche is always better than picking up a Chevy Cobalt or a balanced Corolla or Honda.
